Tom Dooling is contributed with having been the first to build a successful miniature tether race car after he got tired of fixing up his model airplane after crashes almost each weekend. Scat-Tether-Miniature-Race-Car His father, Thomas E. Dooling moved during the depression with his wife and his three sons from Alton Illinois to California in the hope to find better employment possibilities. After finishing high-school, Tom and his two brothers became model airplane enthusiasts, but, as mentioned above, they were less enthusiastic about the regular crashes for their planes. Back in the mid thirties model airplanes, once airborne, could not be controlled any longer, as there were no wireless remote controls available yet.
Tom Dooling’s first successful design of a tether car followed many others. The miniature tether race car offered here, the Scat, manufactured in 1953, was dominating the 0.19cin class when it came on the market. But for unknown reasons only 25 were ever built making the Scat one of the rarest vintage tether cars in the Mite class. read more>>
