The Turtleback is considered the “Holy Grail” among collectors. Only about 1,500 were sold before Singer bought them back for full price and offered the customer the following model, the Letter A machine. The Turtleback was to small and did not work well. Concerned about his reputation, Singer bought them back to destroy them, hence they are very hard to find.World wide are only eight machines know to have survived; the machine offered here is one of them.
Singer was one of the most important manufacturer and the Turtleback is one of the most highly sought after antique sewing machine. It was the first machine manufactured for Domestic use, hence the name, “New Family Sewing Machine”. read more>>
