Rare PEERLESS Pencil Pointer invented by Whittler around 1905. This particular pointer is in really nice clean and original condition mounted on an Oak board. It has the original drawer for the shavings, nice paint and it is not rusty.
Condition:
This machine is in fairly good condition, no repairs, paint all original and the nickel plating is not bad either. A nice example of the rare three knife version.
History:
In 1906, Whittler advertised a pencil pointer with one knife and the remark "Patent applied for." Only two of those one knife pencil pointers are known to me. Shortly after, Whittler improved his design and added one more knife, and then one more time another knife for a total of three.
Most likely Whittler failed to get a patent issued for his machine and had to seize production as there is no patent known in his name. The version with just one knife is the hardest to find, the machine with two knifes occasionally shows up on eBay. The machine offered here, the version with three knifes was only in production for a short periode of time and is very difficult to find. As far as I know, there was another one sold on eBay on May 7, 2017, with a buy it now price of $950.
